We made it! With all our bags! We arrived at 9:40pm after a 17 hour trip via Amman, Jordan. As we were disembarking in Cairo they announced that it was 95 degrees outside - at 9:40pm! (The high today is 103.) Ann and Abby (Dylan's mom and sister) greeted us with hugs and smiles at the airport and brought us and all of our stuff home. They made a sign for us too - "Christiy & Dylan, Ahlan wa Sahlan!" Welcome!
It was deifnitely more of a shock than I expected being surrounded by non-white non-Americans in the airport again. I hadn't realized how much I had sunk into the comfort of white middle/upper class suburbia. Wheaton'll do that to you. Since we flew Royal Jordanian airlines, even in the terminal in Chicago it seemed like we were in the Middle East. I was wearing a Wheaton College t-shirt and a man commented that it was a good school. I asked how he had heard of Wheaton and he looked at me kind of funny and said, "I live here." I was like, right, we haven't left Chicago yet...
So, we're here and we'll see what happens in the coming days! Thanks for reading!
