The day after New Years, the Costers all piled into a van to go to Mt. Sinai - in Arabic "Gabel Musa" (Mountain of Moses). We stayed in the monastery guest house near the base of mountain and joined hundreds of other "pilgrims" at 3:30am for the climb to the top, aiming to get there in time to see the sunrise. It was about a two hour hike in the dark, passing camels and scattered tea houses along the way. We perched on the walls around the peak at 6am and were rewarded by a dramatic (and rather cold) sunrise!
