This is where we lived from August 2011 to December 2013! Check the blog archives for these dates if you're interested in reading more than this little intro...
Namibia is a beautiful country in southern Africa. It is very large (the size of Texas and Louisiana together) but very sparsely populated - only about 2 million people in the whole country! The landscape changes drastically across the country from huge sand dunes and empty desert to grasslands and savanna to mountains rolling hills. As the national anthem says, it is a "contrasting" country! The town where we lived, Tsumeb, is called the garden town of Namibia. It is beautiful and green, with lots of flowering trees and a large park where people can sit and hang out. There's a main shopping street in the center of town that has a good variety of shops and cafes, and there are several hotels. Dylan and I both taught at schools in "the location," or the slums of town. We especially loved getting to know our learners and setting up extra curricular activities for them including math, reading, and French club! Now that we're home, we miss our colleagues and learners from our schools, our church family, our dogs, and the beautiful Namibian skies. We see ourselves going back to Africa in the future. |
