Oh, the irony. 10 minutes ago, this blog was titled, "Waiting," and I was writing about how I (sadly) didn't have a job yet even though we've been here for over a week now. Then, just as I was finishing, an email came in.
"MCC would like to offer you the position of D&O Administrator. You seem well-fitted for it and we're excited about having you join the MCC staff!"
So I rewrote the whole th. =) For those who haven't fully explored this site (look at the links on the left), MCC is Maadi Community Church. I interviewed last week for the position of Development and Outreach Administrator, which will involve working with MCC's partner ministiries here in Cairo - a couple refugee schools, a small community school, and some others (I still have a lot to learn!). This will be a part-time position (about 20 hours a week) so I will still probably look for something else in addition. But this is a good start! Alhumdulillah (Thanks be to God!)
Dylan is also pretty well set for what he's going to be doing. He's signed up as an official substitute teacher at CAC, and he's the ONLY physics/math substitute they have right now, so he's bound to get called a lot. He also knows the physics teachers from his high school years here and they have told him he'll be first on their list if they need a sub! Dylan will also be tutoring and already has a few people waiting to sign up with him from CAC (school hasn't even started yet!). Finally, he's going to be an assistant coach with the cross-country team when that starts in late November. Way to go Dylan!
We're hoping to sign up for an Arabic class sometime in the next few weeks. Many people are on vacation right now, so our class may not start till September. In the meantime we've been using the Arabic computer program we got in the States to learn some vocabulary.
We've both been out and about going to the school, church, small groups, grocery store, etc etc etc. I'm still at the stage where I'm pretty proud of myself if I can get anywhere without getting lost. =) Dylan's been driving and has no problem with the crazy Egyptian traffic, but I haven't been brave enough to try yet.
We haven't really established a daily routine because things are still falling into place (or not). We've got a decent amount of free time (which is nice, I'm not complaining) and it's really too hot outside to go sight-seeing, so we've been sitting at home a lot, waiting for things to pick up. I guess now they will!
