We (all four of us) have finally made the decision to evacuate. We're so tired of the stress and uncertainty of the situation here, and the constant wondering, "Should we be leaving? Should we stay?" So for better or worse we've decided to go.
We're planning to only be gone for 1-2 weeks. We already have a return plane ticket that we can move forward and back as needed. Honestly, things are looking up here and we're hoping that in the next 10 days or so, life will really start going back to normal. But you never KNOW is the problem, and that's why we've decided to wait out the remainder from Indiana rather than Cairo.
There's been some problems with flights being cancelled, which we hope won't happen to us but it very well could. Ideally we'll be leaving tomorrow morning and arriving in Indiana tomorrow night. It's a relief to have made this decision!
I notice the news coverage of Cairo has significantly decreased today, but there are still thousands of protesters in Tahrir Square. We hear that the opposition and the government may negotiate, an agreement may be reached, and that transfer of presidential powers may or may not be involved. There is still a nightly curfew here and most people have not returned to work. However, protests have been very peaceful for the last couple days.
We met as a church today and it was encouraging to sing and pray and just be together. Pray for those who are staying behind, that the situation really will keep improving and that normal life would return as soon as possible. We hope we'll be back soon too!
